WELCOME TO OSHC
At OSHC we give future prototypers the skills they need to turn an idea into reality. By focusing on open source hardware design, we teach people how to build real things that they can use in their own lives while constantly improving upon the original concepts. Our current focus has been on the development of open source food production systems. Check out the CLASSES tab to check for upcoming classes.

OUR DRIVING FORCE
At OSHC, our mission is to provide a physical space that encourages the understanding, development, production, and productization of Open Source Hardware. Through our hands-on workshops focusing on open source hardware design, micro controllers, electronics, metal fabrication, and hydraulics/mechanical systems, we teach our students how to bridge the gap between concept and reality. We're creating the next generation of innovators, who will understand how to navigate in the emerging open economy of the future.

WHAT TO EXPECT
OSHC is located in historic downtown Garnett, Kansas. Our facilities currently include 2,000 square feet of usable shop space with a 1,600 square foot dorm facility to be completed by March 1, 2012. The workshop includes access to welders, chop saws, mag drills, air hammer, torches, and many other fabrication tools. Our goal at OSHC is to create an immersive environment where full attention can be dedicated to study.

DESIGNS IN PROGRESS
At OSHC we're currently working on several open source protoypes for automating food production. We believe that by giving people abundant access to healthy organic foods, we can shorten supply chains and reduce the use of polluting agricultural chemicals. Open source hardware is about creating industrial productivity at the local level.

What to Expect
Classes include six weeks of intensive course work followed by a seventh week of independent study. Instructor-led classes run Monday-Friday. Saturdays are often spent finishing projects while Sundays are a day of rest. Lodging is provided onsite and is included in tuition.
